If anything at all, this November has shown us how sparkling with wit and insightful women in STEM can be! It is not all about ‘soda glasses’ and ‘white lab coat’!
We Enjoyed The Journey to Stanford
Thank You, Dr Aparna Hegde for making The IWI Talk lively and informative. I am certain many of us were unaware of the need and occasion to consult a Urogynecologist until that day! We are grateful to you for spending some time with us. We wish you and ARMAAN good luck in your endeavors and look forward to speaking with you again.
And my my my! What an incredible, incredible IWI Debate that was last Friday!
We are still reeling in delight after hosting Dr Nandita DasGupta and Ms Shyamala Rajaram, who inspired and charmed us with their experiences from an illustrious career, for forty-five minutes!
The Leaky Pipe Syndrome, the social and financial issues that keep girls away from access to higher education in STEM, was a revelation. If we really need more girls at IITs and IIMs, we now know some issues that need to be fixed at the grassroots! And if you are student, do remember to experience the joy of learning.
A career in STEM is not boring! There is great excitement involved in research and a plethora of unusual fans for your work, as highlighted by Dr Nandita. And if you are out there on the slippery corporate ladder, there is enormous satisfaction in empowering people, as narrated by STEM woman-turned CEO, Shyamala!
The Debate was such a much-needed dose of inspiration for the overworked women of our times. It was a reminder not to aspire to do everything by ourselves, and to seek support from friends, family and colleagues. We all had something to learn – the importance of being joyful and persistent, the need to embrace uncertainty, and the right attitude to battle the guilt between career and family!
I am certain these two Incredible Women had the audience inspired with this feel good debate, nodding in agreement all the way.
So girls, lean into your support system, treasure little moments for yourselves, find your answers and soar … and remember to sing along your way (Did you hear Dr Nandita sing?)
A word of thanks to our guest writer, Sowmya Vallabhaneni, for the riveting review of Invisible Women – a book with a data-driven view on how the world is designed for men. Hope you did not miss the interesting video enclosed in the blog!
Thank You to all the Incredible Women who have chosen to soar with us on this empowering journey!
This is Team IWI signing off after an eventful November and looking forward to a fun December edition!
